He served as a navigator in Burma in the second world war. He played for Erdington Chess Club before moving to the Black Country where he continued playing chess with [[Wolverhampton Kipping]], [[Goodyears]], [[Dudley]] and finally [[Mercia]], being a founder member of the latter. He played in congresses where he won a number of prizes. He was a well respected man and will be sadly missed. (information supplier by [[K.A.J.Francis]] of Mercia CC.)

Gordon Stokes-Roberts 1923-2007

Sadly I have to report the death of Gordon at the age of 84.
